I thought the purpose was to have a bra you could wear under a clingy t-shirt and not have seams or lumps. Apparently not. As far as I can tell, the purpose is to have a bra you can wear under a very baggy t-shirt, and still have your breasts look cartoonishly large and pointy.

And what the hell is with all this padding? I'm a D-cup! They don't need to be any bigger! They don't need pushing up and out of the damn cups! They just need to stay in one place while I run for the bus.

Also, when I buy underwear, I find myself pitching my voice higher and softer to save us all the confusion and embarrassment.

I don't have the gender trouble but i do have an ever hatred of bras at D cup size. Only ones I can find which fit properly are white sports bras cos I can't wear underwired ones, I'm a funny shape.

Urgh, my sympathy. I had to give up on my no-wire rule years ago; I just couldn't maintain it.

I like the concept of buying new undies, but the reality is harsh and cruel, (especially if you go to Evans). Buttresses and scaffolding have not yet been mentioned, but it's surely only a matter of time.
As has been mentioned before- tshirt bras are for the prevention of visible nipples.

Hmmph. Surely the Cleavage O'Doom/quadroboob effect is more noticeable than mere nipples!

Yes, but also more desirable/aesthetic (apparently). I just like something that keeps them from bouncing too much and kept in roughly the right place.

I find my sole T-shirt (or, more often, work shirt) bra useful, but then my breasts look cartoonishly large and pointy whatever I do.

Do you have a sports bra? They squish your breasts together and clamp them (to me) weirdly tightly against your chest, but you might have better luck getting a smooth silhouette with one of those, and obviously they're designed for activity. And not padded.

I've got a couple of sports bras, but I use them for actual sports. And with all the squishage, they get sweaty and manky. Plus I really like wearing vest tops - I spent so many years in long sleeves, dammit, I'm gonna flaunt my old scars - and the thick straps look very weird.

It's not even a smooth silhouette, so much as keeping the boobs in the bra. The 't-shirt bras' I got today have this extra-thick wodge of padding underneath the breast, that pushes the breast up and out of the bra, so I get this overflowing cleavage. It's ridiculous. If I wanted my boobs all free-range and bouncy, I wouldn't be wearing the damn bra.

*belated comment* Yeah, that's just weird. If you're a D cup or above Bravissimo do lots of t-shirt bras with minimal or no padding - they usually have a thin extra layer of moulding to conceal nipples and stuff, but I have the Panache Superbra with none of that and it's pretty good. Costs a lot more than M&S though :(
